Swainstown Farm, based in Kilmessan, Co. Meath, has been farmed by the Preston family since the early 18th century. Since 2017 they have been converting what was a traditional wheat and suckler farm towards a new path dedicated to producing healthy nutrient-dense and chemical-free food. They currently grow a wide range of chemical-free fruit and vegetables and a small flock of 100% grass-fed lamb.
They aim for minimal intervention in their farming practices, which means their vegetable garden is no-till, no tractors & no chemicals. Their pastures are managed in a way that mimics nature; moving their mixed species herd daily onto fresh pasture & allowing a long time for the land to recover thereby promoting biodiversity and locking carbon down in the soil. This also keeps our livestock free from parasites & they never have to routinely medicate their animals.
