Delicious Fun in the Boyne Valley this Bank Holiday Weekend
While the weather may not be playing ball there are still lots of great food events and experiences that you can enjoy in the Boyne Valley this long weekend.

Slane Castle

Enjoy a relaxing family day at the Castle with their Sunday BBQ on this bank holiday weekend, 6th August.
Light snacks are available from 11 am with a BBQ in the courtyard from 12-4 pm and Browne’s Bar is open until 6 pm.

The kids will be entertained with fun garden games on the lawn in front of the Castle and live music in the Courtyard from 2-4pm. Their free concert-themed walking trail is the ideal place to build up an appetite. Their Food Truck will also be open to pick up a coffee and we have ample free parking nearby at The Distillery. Their Castle tours will also run at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Booking is advised but not essential.

The Cottage Market Drogheda

The Cottage Market Drogheda is on this Saturday 5th August in Scotch Hall.
The Market features over 40 local Makers of homegrown, homemade and handcrafted delights on the day. There will also be an electric mix of stalls everything from organic fruit and veg, baked goods, Indian street food, honey, cheese, bespoke art, jewellery, craft, candles, books & vinyl- something for everyone!

Sonairte Eco Visitor Centre

Sonairte Café is open all weekend, serving delicious vegetarian and vegan meals, snacks and hot drinks in the peaceful countryside setting of Sonairte Eco Centre.

Sonairte has been certified as an organic food producer with the Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association since 1988, and subsequently by Irish Organic Trust, and has been teaching organic horticulture and providing courses in various aspects of environmental education ever since. The seasonal produce harvested from the gardens is available in their Eco Shop and across the online platform Open Food Network.

The Piggery Farm Shop & Cafe at Swainstown Farm

Fresh from the farm - you can buy chemical free veggies and flowers harvested the day before, free range eggs from the chickens, apple juice from the orchard, and our 100% grass fed lamb and pork sausages. 
They also sell a whole range of local sustainable produce from honey to cheeses, cured meats, organic beef, ice cream and more! 
Sit outside on the picnic tables and watch the chickens, while you enjoy your coffee. 
Pets (on leads please, as we are a sheep farm and only during shop hours) welcome!

Slane Distillery Experiences 

Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or simply looking to try something fun, experiencing history, tasting samples and crafting cocktails, it’s all yours when you book a Slane Irish Whiskey distillery tour.
Ireland has a rich history of crafting Whiskey, so where better to discover or deepen your understanding of this past than at Slane Distillery on the historical grounds of Slane Castle. Here we bring this rich history to life through a working distillery where you can witness whiskey making in action and savour the sounds, aromas and flavours of this ancient process.

Killua Castle 

Killua Castle has been described as one of the most romantic demesnes in Ireland. This former home of the family of Lawrence of Arabia lay in ruins for over 60 years before being masterfully restored and brought back to life. The castle is surrounded by beautiful undulating landscape, that is now home to rare breeds of moiled cows, Jacob sheep, old Irish Goats and parkland deer, all reared in a sustainable and regenerative manner.

The guided tour of the castle consists of an approximately 50 min. visit to the main rooms of Killua Castle, all located on the ground floor, with an optional visit to the 18th c. kitchen in the cellars. The rooms house a collection of artwork and artefacts from the Medieval and Early Renaissance period. The visit may be customised according to your interests. The visit costs €50 per person and lasts approximately 50 minutes. Please see FAQs below for more information.

As well as the guided tour you can also wander through the beautiful grounds of Killua Castle, or take in a yoga class. Enjoy some delicious bites from their Food Truck all of which are of course made with Killua Castle produce.

Sheridan's Cheesemongers Farmer's Market

Sheridans Meath Shop & Café is situated in the beautiful Boyne Valley countryside. They are open 7 days a week with a local Famers Market every Saturday from 10-2pm and it is definitely the place to go to stock up your larder for the long weekend.
The shop carries the very best Irish farmhouse cheeses and Artisan foods alongside their Sheridan's Café, serving teas, coffees, light lunches and cakes, all made with the best ingredients in our kitchen. Hot sandwiches available until 4:00pm daily. 

Bee Wise Open Day 6th August

Take a stroll around a 5-acre nature trail, learning about the habitats, flora and fauna, and the lifecycles of woodland creatures. 
Paddy and his family are onsite at different locations, discussing and showing various species of bumblebees, butterflies and pond life.
See the amazing work carried out by the Honeybees up close in the working observation hive, from April to October, and learn about the inner intricacies of the hive.
Around every corner are hidden gems, to provide fun for all ages. At the end of the trail, there is a maze and an outdoor games area to bring out the competitiveness in young and old! 
There are picnic areas at varies locations around the trail to enjoy dining out with nature. 
Bring your own food or tea/coffee and snacks are available to purchase on site.
