Dine out in the Boyne Valley- Scholars Townhouse Hotel

Scholars Townhouse Hotel is located in the heart of Drogheda’s City Centre, in the Boyne Valley region, in Ireland’s Ancient East, and it was originally built in 1867 as a monastery for the Christian Brothers by renowned Architects Ashlin and Pugin, who are noted for designing many parliamentary buildings across Ireland and the UK. The late Victorian building was renovated by the McGowan family in 2005 who have transformed the magnificent building into a 16 bedroom boutique Hotel.
Since the arrival of Covid-19 to our shores, the team at Scholars Townhouse adapted their offerings with a very popular take away service and they also launched a new Coffee Van on their grounds. However thankfully they have now reopened allowing for sit down dining and overnight guests. Scholars Townhouse is renowned for its fabulous food and its menus feature lots of local fresh produce from across the Boyne Valley. The hotel features a fine dinings restaurant which is one of Co Louth's premier destination for diners and food lovers. Awarded 2 AA rosettes since 2015.
The first restaurant in Drogheda to receive rosettes and the second in Co. Louth. Awarded 2019 Best Hotel Restaurant County Louth by the Restaurant Association of Ireland. The experience is that of fine dining. Head Chef Matthew Burke has a simple philosophy; he sources the best seasonal ingredients and then applies simple techniques to enhance and extract the best flavors for each of his dishes.
The components and produce chosen demand freshness and quality. The team in the Scholars kitchen have a genuine passion for premium fresh food, all of their dishes and their components are created by their skilled culinary team and the use of local produce is very evident on the menus. As well as a fine dining restaurant the hotel also offers a Gastrolounge & Bar which offers a less formal yet still delicious menu than the restaurant along with a selection of fine wines, craft beers, local whiskeys, barista-style coffees, cocktails and an abundance of spirits and liquors.
Scholars Hotel is also well known for its Afternoon Tea, which is a real treat and is served in the comfort of Scholars Gastro lounge. As with every restaurant and hotel that has reopened its doors in the wake of Covid-19 Scholars Townhouse Hotel had to adapt and diversify. They currently have some fantastic Welcome Back packages which would be perfect for a break in the Boyne Valley.
It has been a huge time of upheaval for the hospitality industry and we wish them the very best of luck this week as they once more welcome guests through their doors.
