Hinterland is an annual multi-disciplinary arts festival based in the spiritual home of the Book of Kells. This year's festival promises an illuminating journey of debate, discussion, reflection and imagination – on the world as it is, and how it might be.
Tickets are now on sale. Browse the full programme here.
After an all-online version of the festival in 2020 and a pared back event in 2021, Hinterland is pleased to announce that we are returning with a fully laden festival of 60+ events.
Guests this year include the award-winning detective fiction writer Val McDermid, Joy Division/New Order percussionist Stephen Morris, actor and writer Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter series), RTÉ GAA commentator Marty Morrissey, Irish Times columnist Fintan O'Toole, first time novelists Declan O'Rourke (better known as one of our top singer-songwriters) and Catherine Prasifka (currently riding high in the best-seller lists), RTÉ newscaster Eileen Dunne (on her book on the GAA All Stars), the ever popular Michael Harding (reflecting on love and belonging), as well as musical performances from Michael Brunnock and Kíla.
We begin on Thursday 23 June, with a 'festival within a festival'. Hindsight will offer two days of history talks, beginning with a day of lectures on the Irish Civil War sponsored by Meath County Libraries.
