This November Boye Valley Flavours and Hinterland Festival Kells are teaming up to bring you an epic three day festival celebrating 5,000 years of Irish Food & Culture. Throughout the three days there are many events, cookery demos, workshops, walkabouts and more all discussing and debating the theme of food and culture in Ireland.
One of these events is Our Table Brunch with the inspirational activist Ellie Kisyombe.
Our Table was founded by activist Ellie Kisyombe and Michelle Darmody in 2016 when they met through a shared belief that a conversation needed to be started about Direct Provision, and the goal to facilitate change through conversation over food. Our Table is a community based, non-profit project that aims to create nurturing and empathic spaces where people can gain skills, are paid a wage and can gain knowledge of the Irish food industry.
Ellie says “It is important for me to see the communities here in Ireland embracing the spirit of welcoming new communities by allowing us to be part of it but also learning from each other, food is culture food soothes all the pain, it represents our smiles, it tells hidden stories of pain and happiness. Food holds us together, it heals and tells every untold story while we are breaking bread.”
The Our Table Brunch takes place on Sunday November 3rd in the Headfort Arms Hotel and will be prepared by Ellie herself and others from Our Table using fresh, local produce from the Boyne Valley. All proceeds from the event will go towards Our Table, so why not come and break bread, break down barriers and open up the conversation over brunch with Irish and International flavours celebrating the flavours of the Boyne Valley.
Tickets are €25 including Brunch served by Ellie and her Our Table team with all proceeds going to Our Table. They are available at www.hinterland.ie or to purchase at the Samhain Box office in The Courthouse, Kells which is open 11-2pm Tuesday-Saturday.
