Boyne Valley Flavours Celebration Lunch

Published on: 14th February 2020 @ 9:23 AM

On Friday 31st January many of our members joined us in the Headfort Arms Hotel in Kells for a special Celebration Lunch.

In honor of our successful 2019 where we celebrated many fantastic achievements including

  • Featuring in National Geographic as one of the World’s Best Foodie Destinations in 2019.
  • A record breaking year at the Blas na hÉireann awards for Boyne Valley Flavour’s producers who scooped 20 awards.
  • The launch of our brand new Food Festival- Samhain in partnership with Hinterland Festival Kells and as part of Taste the Island.
  • Winning Most Innovative Food or Beverage Marketing Campaign for a Destination at the World Food Trekking Awards in London.
  • Another fantastic renewal of the Boyne Valley Food Series.

These are just a few of our highlights but 2019 was truly a super year for Boyne Valley Flavours and we felt it was only fitting that we came together  to celebrate this fantastic community of Food/Drink producers and Food Service Providers who all work together to put the Boyne Valley on the map as a world class food tourism destination.

Proceedings began with a delicious Listoke Gin and Tonic followed by what was an absolute feast of delicious Boyne Valley Produce starting with Kerrigan’s Mushroom soup, The Smokin’ Butchers Smoked Black Pudding and Collar of Bacon Bon Bon, Killua Castle Venison, Boyne Valley Bán Tartlet with A Bit on the Side Port and Balsamic jelly and Carlingford Oysters. The main course was a difficult decision between Maperath Farm Free Range Roast Goose, Potato and Apple Stuffing or Kerrigan’s Wild Mushroom Risotto.

We ended with a delicious Slane Whiskey and Butterscotch Pudding and Martry Mill Brown Bread Ice Cream.

It was most definitely a proper celebration of the fantastic produce that the Boyne Valley region has to offer and the most perfect example of our Place on a Plate initiative which aims to encourage chefs and restaurants to use local produce on their menus.

Throughout the afternoon we heard from the inspirational Olivia Duff, Boyne Valley Flavour’s Chairman Bronagh Conlon as well as Boyne Valley Flavours Brand Ambassadors Russell and Patrick also known as the Gastro Gays and the fantastic Hilary McGrath of A Bit on the Side gourmet jellies.

Patrick, Russell and Hilary all alluded to the fact that it is the community aspect of Boyne Valley Flavours that makes it so special and allows for its continued growth and success both on a domestic and international stage.

Gráinne McKeon Food Officer for Boyne Valley Flavours-  we have had a wonderful evening celebrating all the success of our Boyne Valley Flavours Members in 2019. It is now full steam ahead to make 2020 just as successful. We are really looking forward to working all members and to continue our journey of promoting our local food stories.

This year will be another busy year for us as we continue to showcase the Boyne Valley region as a leading Food Tourism Destination across the globe, further develop our Place on a Plate initiative and work closely with all our members to ensure we achieve our goals.

Finally we would like to say a huge thank you to Olivia Duff and her team at the Headfort Arms Hotel for delivering such a beautiful lunch, it was a perfect celebration of the Boyne Valley!
